Summer Solstice poem

Such warmth has he often brung,

Since the dawn of time has his song been sung;

Working together in tandem with the breeze,

Seldom have I felt to be at such ease;

That golden feeling of his touch,

I just want more, but I don’t ask too much;

The gentle glide as he caresses my face,

I close mine eyes and find that happy place;

From dawn till dusk does he bring an all-pervading light,

But even he takes his slumber by night;

In the summertime he shines in all his glory by day,

We take his offering, we bask and play;

The days are long and our hearts are true,

With the golden god beaming down with his auric hue;

But like all deities, he’s not to be crossed,

Indulge too much and you could yet pay a cost;

His radiant warning, all of us must heed,

For he’s true to his word, true to his deed.

That said, we daren’t forget that he’s the bringer of life,

Devoted to nurturing us, to lessen the strife;

So what can we learn from the king of the sky?

Us mere mortals who struggle to live, yet struggle to die;

Perhaps we ought to admire him from high up above,

And mimic his ways through care-giving and love;

For the lord on his throne should perhaps be revered,

He should be worshipped and loved, but should he truly be feared?

When he begins his descent and the night is on its way,

We stop to give thanks that we all lived for another day.
